- Why Layers Are Cool!
The Layers tool allows you
to make you art multi-dimensional.
By utilizing the layers function, you can literally layer objects over
one another in the same drawing, allowing you to work with new levels
of texture and contrast.
** This tool may be the most
useful to the creators of abstract, impressionist, or surreal works,
but we hope that everyone can have fun playing around with our layers.
1.) To use layers, simply start your drawing using the regular
tools. (See previous tutorials for help using the basic drawing tools).
Look at the Layer Box located in the upper right hand corner of your
canvas. You will see that whenever you start a new drawing, you
are automatically working in Layer 1.
.
2.) When you are ready to work
with a new layer, click the green "plus" sign beneath the
layer box. You have now added a second layer to your drawing.
3.) To make sure that you are
working in your new layer, click on Layer 2.
The active layer will be highlighted in Blue.
4.) You can add as many layers
to your drawing as you'd like.
5.) Now it’s time for the
special effects!
The Blur Key allows you to
‘blur’ the objects draw in a certain layer, thus creating
contrast in your drawing.
The Drop Shadow key creates
more contrast, adding shadows to selected objects.
